Advances in Multi-Axis and Mill/Turn Mark the Release of CAD/CAM 2023

CNC SOFTWARE LLCdeveloper of Mastercam CAD/CAM software, released Mastercam 2023, following a public beta program, during which manufacturers around the world were allowed to “test” the new program and then provide feedback that helped shape the final 2023 product. Many improvements in Mastercam 2023 are directly driven by users and Mastercam stores, according to the developers, who draw feedback from public betas, store visits, customer surveys and customer reviews. consultations with expert industry partners.

The new unified multi-axis toolpath brings together the Morph, Parallel, Along Curve and Project Curve strategies in a single interface, providing extensive and highly flexible cutting path creation. The unified toolpath provides access to these cut patterns when the programmer adds the appropriate curves. For example, to create a toolpath that morphs between two surfaces, select Unified in multi-axis toolpaths, then define the cut pattern on two surfaces with the Morph style.

The unified toolpath allows for greater flexibility in the cutting pattern when programming in multi-axis, the developer reported.

Additionally, Mastercam 2023 introduced a new toolpath to the Turning Suite for the Mill-Turn product. B-axis contour turning is a finishing toolpath that allows B-axis rotation while the tool is cutting. Toolpath presents a top-down workflow and gives you automatic or manual motion control. Automatic mode produces safe toolpath motion that keeps the insert in contact with the contour. Manual mode provides full control over the B-axis angles along the contour. Areas that would have required multiple tools and resulted in blend-ups are now possible with a single toolpath, resulting in superior finish, fewer tool changes, and less cycle time.

Dynamic OptiRough and Area Roughing toolpaths can be aware of undercut conditions, which improves toolpath movement, including less air cutting.

Mastercam 2023 introduces the Machine Group Setup feature panel for Mill and Router machine groups. This panel encompasses the features and functionality of the machine group properties dialog, including new features. Machine Group Setup provides a clean and modern interface for defining stock, material properties, tightening, tools, and simulation settings. Accessing all critical components of a job’s setup, from stock to simulation, has never been easier and more organized.
