Boosie, 50 Cent & Meek Mill React to Brittney Griner’s Jail Sentence in Russia

Boosie Badazz, 50 Cent, Meek Mill and more react to Brittney Griner’s jail sentence in Russia for drugs.

Brittney Griner has been sentenced to nearly 10 years in prison after being found guilty of possession and trafficking of drugs with criminal intent Thursday in a Russian court. The WNBA star was also fined 1 million rubles or US$16,300 and sentenced in what was a highly publicized pull and tow by the Russian and US governments.

According to Russian prosecutors, Griner had less than a gram of cannabis oil and a vape pen in her luggage when she was arrested by Russian police in February, ABC News reported.

The Biden administration called on the Russian government to free Griner and also brokered a prisoner exchange by offering to release a Russian accused of plotting to kill Americans and selling arms to Colombia. However, these were not heard.

After the sentencing on Thursday, many in the Hip Hop community reacted to Griner’s sentencing, which they called harsh.

Among those who reacted were several celebrities, including Boosie Badazz and 50 Cent. In an Instagram video, Boosie says the government hasn’t done enough to bring Griner home because she’s a black woman.

“How the hell did this girl do nine years for a weed pen? And the United States is not doing anything about it, you tell me. If it was Taylor Swift, it would be a peace treaty right now. They would be drafted to go to war, for a weed pen, nine years,” the Louisiana rapper said.

The rapper also called out Vice President Kamala Harris for not speaking.

“What this shows for black women in the United States, and the vice president, for a black woman, you’re supposed to be on the front line, you’re supposed to be on the front line to get that woman out of jail.”

50 Cent also reacted by saying that the basketball player was caught up in the geopolitics between the two countries.

“This is crazy smh you never want to get caught up in politics,” 50 Cent wrote on Instagram. “They’ll tell him about 10 years for a vape pin watch.”

Radio host Angie Martinez also responded to the sentencing by calling on the US government to step in to help Griner.

“BRING HER HOME,” Martinez wrote on Instagram. “9 years for oil in a vape pen?! this poor woman is a political pawn and it’s disgusting and f**kin infuriating!

Meek Mill also tweeted a message, “Free BG…let’s fight for her!!!!!!!”

In the meantime, Chuck D also warned against breaking the rules in foreign countries like Russia, which has anti-American sentiment.

“I’ve taken hundreds of artists around the world…the number 1 message don’t worry with these governments on any sht,” he said. “BG has been used and abused by the D-evils. Here, NRA and image mobsters should know that the killing machines of war are not a movie. While all can only sit and watch pray,” he added.

Brittney’s wife, Cherelle Griner, has yet to respond to her sentencing. Last month, she revealed that she spoke to President Biden about helping bring Griner safely back to America.
